Backstory for the villains

Alright, are these strips a dig at modern fantasy and in how we try to humanize villains rather then have them be moustache-twirling evil-for-the-sake-of-evil villains of old?

Or did you just find the idea funny? ;)

Little from column "A", little from column "B". Flaco's a method actor, and it all just snowballed from there. (Just don't go asking Gramp to develop his backstory as the city of Minas Tirith.)

I think it's a little that Arthur and Flaco like to over analyze the characters and make each villain have this complicated maybe nonsensical backstory for turning evil. And it's a little that they know it drives Sheldon crazy messing with his favorite movie.
