Speaking of unusal items to throw, in Port Lincoln, South Australia, there is a tuna toss contest, part of the tunarama festival:

They no longer use real fish, but weighted plastic replica's.
It almost mataches the ham throw!

The strangest part about that comic was, I kid you not, getting emails from countries around the world where Sheldon readers tell me "we have an official shoe toss" or "we have an official tree stump toss".
I do love how the air of "officialness" takes the edge off "a sport only guys with beer will enjoy." :)

If you've ever been to a Scottish Highlander's games, you'll see they hurl everything from stones to telephone poles.
In Lithuania or Boratland or some such wilderness, they have a wife tossing contest. Saw it on ESPN at about three AM once.

Perhaps you mean the noble (ahem) sport of Wife Carrying, an annual event in the finnish village of Sonkajrvi

Nope, they had to toss wifey up in the air (and catch her, of course). I believe it may have been filmed by the fine folks at Diamond P Sports, the same ones who brought us the swamp buggy races, with vehicle names like Shagnasty; another 3 am sport, along with late, late LATE boxing, wherein you see two White guys, fighting.
