Thursday August 21st strip QUICK QUESTION?!?!
posted Thursday, August 21, 2008 - 06:17 PM (#44405)

Dave, just a quick question for you... I think you might have touched on this in your podcasts, but if you haven't then maybe you can. Due to your awesome video on how you make your comic strip, I noticed that you do everything from start to finish on paper then put it on the computer, so my question is this...

Today's strip was three frames of the duck and they look pretty darn similar which is good...but my question is this, in the computer do you just copy those...or did you actually draw those one after the other? So if someone bought the original art for that one, would the two frames be blank?

If you haven't touched on this in the podcasts, I wonder if you could. How do you guys all feel about copying so much in the computer or just drawing it over again. Do people think that is kind of cheap and easy and fast way to draw or is it because it saves them time when drawing??! and for fans I wonder if that makes them think twice about the art and or the creator. Does it cheapen the comic?!

Your comments and anyone's comments would be greatly appreciated?!!

My guess is he drew it. There are slight differences in Arthur's mouth and feet.

Only slightly different. Nice job, Dave.

Plus, he sells the originals. Someone would be pretty ticked if they purchased this strip only to find out it had two blank boxes. LOL

That's my thought anyway. I could be wrong!

Yep, I draw every single thing in every panel of every strip! That's the fun part -- and the artistic part -- so I revel in that part.

You can probably tell, if you look close, and see the subtle differences panel-to-panel: The hat, the feet, his mouth, the clock, the tic-tic-tics....all hand drawn.

If you're ever at a comics convention, make sure you swing by and see the physical Sheldon strips: I try to make the final product look clean 'n cool-looking 'n frame-able...so I think you'll like them!
