80's Christmas Music

Dave, I am ashamed. You apparently don't get into that rather masterfully crafted piece of music all of us 80's kids know as, "Do They Know It's Christmas Time?" from Band Aid.

And, to tell the truth, I actually get into the synth and sax line of the Waitresses' "Christmas Wrapping." Too bad the lead singer died of lung cancer. :/

There are some good Christmas songs from the 1980's; it's just that by that time everyone was trying to cover everyone else's stuff, so no one was doing anything really original.

Fairytale of New York by The Pogues f. Kirsty McColl released December 1987 ... possibly the best Christmas song EVER!!!

I agree with jwhouk about Christmas Wrapping. It is an 80s song but it's from the very early 80s (1981) so it might not have been infected with the pure 80s ness of the later stuff.

My favorite Christmas music from the 80's are some of the parodies that came out then. Weird Al's "Christmas at Ground Zero", and Bob Rivers' "Twisted Christmas" album. Great formative times of my youth. Explains all the therapy now.

Could someone share with me the link to where I can edit my avatar? I've been poking around via the Sheldon Forum, but can't find the edit profile option I need. Thanks!

Shalaina, thanks for the input. Found the prefrences link, it's on the right side of the page. When you click on your username, the page said the links were on the left, and there were no links so I thought something was wrong on my end.

Mr. Sava over at Dreamland Chronicles has an aversion to the George Michael version of "Last Christmas."

I have to agree with him - and I also think Taylor Swift's version is gut-wrenchingly horrid as well.

Remember "A Very Special Christmas" Cd which came out in the '80s ('89 I think)? Had some really interesting covers including Bryan Adams' "Run Rudolph Run".

"2,000 Miles" by the Pretenders.

"Christmas Island" by Depeche Mode

"Backdoor Santa" by Bon Jovi

Elton John's "Christmas Song"

Weird Al's "The Night Santa Went Crazy"

Hall and Oates' version of "Jingle Bell Rock" wasn't too bad.

"Rusted Chevrolet" by, I believe, Da Yoopers or some novelty group like that.

And let us never forget "Christmas With the Devil" by Spinal Tap

"The Night Santa Went Crazy" came out in 1996. Maybe not an 80's song, but still awesome!

I've never been a fan of Hall & Oates - they just always tried way too hard.

I used to have a version of Jingle Bell Rock by Bobby Sherman - it's still my favorite.
