Nice color gradient. Very inconspicuous at first, then you realize what it represents, and it becomes very effective.

I don't know why, but my first impulse was to replace it with a little more, uh, psychedelic color scheme.

Caption contest? I couldn't come up with any LSD-related punchline for Arthur that doesn't make him sound like Mr. T. :)

It's well done, but I thought the strip wasn't meant to express that coffee made Gramp high and caused him to see funky colors, but rather that it made him happy and caused him to function normally ;) So I thought the original colors were a good choice.

Well, it isn't called a "caffeine buzz" for nothing. Of course coffee won't make you see funky colors. It's not meant to start a debate about the psychoactive qualities of LSD versus caffeine or anything like that. The colors were just for simple, over-the-top fun, in a way the original comic really can't and shouldn't do.

But I'll be damned if caffeine didn't make us function as if those funky colors weren't normally there. :D That's the whole point of the gag, isn't it?

Well technically Caffiene IS a drug. You can even OD if you drink too much coffee during the day. Caffiene waking you up is more or less a contact high. It's why people love it so much and HAVE to have their morning cup...it's a legal drug addiction.
