Darn Tootin' "It's A Wonderful Life"

Saturday, December 26, 2009 - 12:20 AM

If you're like me, "It's a Wonderful Life" is an awesome annual ritual. But even a great movie like that has its implausible, questionable moments. Let's dip into the Sheldon archives, shall we, to remember some of those moments:

1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

What's funny is NPR did a report this year on the intricacies of "It's a Wonderful Life". Here is a link to their article: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?story Id=121871188 . One of the guests argues that "It's a Wonderful Life" is actually a horror film. It was very interesting to hear the guests discuss all of nuances of the film that are only noticed the 10th or 20th time you've seen it.

Kind of strange, but the high school I went to back in Montana was built around 1915, and it originally had a pool with a retractable floor in it, at least as far as the history that I remember goes. I was told by one of the janitors when I went back for my 20th reunion that it was filled in sometime in the late 50s or early 60s when the liability insurance got too expensive.

The oldest high school pool still in use is not too far from me. Greenfield, Ohio's H.S. was a gift from a local industrialist and it also has some rare works of art. The man's name was Lee McClain and the HS is called Greenfield McClain. The pool was opened in 1923, still in use and has a retractable floor on top of it for safety to keep people out of the pool when not in use, and it adds to the usable space as you can have dances on it. Here's is a Wiki article on it:

In case you haven't seen this, SNL had the "lost" ending to It's A Wonderful Life a long time ago. Potter didn't get away with the $8,000 after all.

I haven't been able to find my favorite. Gramp is trying to enjoy watching "It's a Wonderful Life" while Arthur makes snarky comments.
(from the TV) Teacher says every time a bell rings... (Arthur) Uncle Billy takes a drink.
