I'm using Windows 7 and Chrome 10 and transcribed 7 (I think) yesterday with no problems other than operator error.
Nice to hear it, but it won't help me, I'm afraid. I'm not planning to update to Windows 7 for a few more months and Firefox is definitely my preferred browser.
As soon as Dave gives us the green light, though, I'll transcribe as many as I can. I'll keep checking back to see what's happening.
Tried a couple this morning and it seemed to work although I didn't show up on the board as having completed two. Trust they are in the system. Having fun doing it though!
OK, here's an update on the symptoms. I switched to IE and tried it. At first it seemed to be letting me transcribe a strip, but then I tried to add a prop and go back and it told me that someone else was transcribing the strip.
I realised at that point that I hadn't logged on in that browser so I did so and tried to transcribe another strip, and this time it showed me my username as the person entering it and told me that someone else was transcribing the strip. This is what I saw on Firefox when I was logged in.
I hope this information helps.
I was going to start entering things, but saw the posts, so I will wait until it looks as though things are running smoothly. I'd rather wait until it works, rather than have more strips thinking they were transcribed in the system, but are not.
I transcribed one (September / 14 / 2008) without logging in, and experienced no problems. However, I then logged in and tried to transcribe another (October/10/2008) and as soon as I started it I was told it was being transcribed by another user, and it displayed my name as the user.
I've just had a word with my husband who is a programmer. He has had a look at the problem and says it is as if it says, 'is there someone editing the strip?' and then, if so, it doesn't check to see if that someone is the same person who just hit the transcribe button.
It is missing 'and it isn't the same person' check. That's his best guess. He says that he might be wrong because it might not be the only possible fault, but that's what it looks like.
I hope this helps.
I'm very annoyed I was working on strip 7/22/08 and reliazed I was not logged in and went to log in and when I came back cuallaidh had taken credit for the work I did on the strip. watch out if your not logged in don't do any strips because someone will come along and poach your work.
Is this still being worked on? I would like to do this it sounds like fun. I am assuming I am jumping the gun and Dave will tell us when...sorry just excited, I didn't see the post to do this before and would like to get in on the fun.
So we'll have to change how we do it: We'll need to do the transcriptions with folks *not* logged in. It's a hassle, I know...but seems to be only way the darn system will work reliably.
Just follow the revised instructions HERE. [sheldoncomics.com] And for those who were aiming for gifts in the process, it unfortunately means the extra wrinkle of separately tracking which strip dates you do. My apologies for that!
But my thanks, again, for everyone who is willing to help out!
ok, I transcribed while NOT logged in... and it worked!

But it says "Entered by: Jetpac". What's up with that? :-/
And what about the one I tried to start transcribing before? It still won't let me in because, "This strip is currently being transcribed by someone else."
Is there a way to clear myself from being in charge of the strip so I can log out and transcribe?
