Monday's Strip: The NCS Reuben Weekend

For those interested, here are links (in order) for all the cartoonists appearing in today's journal comic:

Panel 1:
Myself, Randall Munroe of xkcd, and Kate Beaton of Hark! A Vagrant

Panel 2:
Kris Straub of F Chords, Scott Kurtz of PvP and Jeff Keane of The Family Circus.

Panel 3:
Sandra Boynton of everyone's golden childhood, and then there's me again, laughing at Sandy's jokes.

Panel 4:
Me, the talented Scott C, Rodd Perry of Brevity, and the always kind Richard Thompson of Cul de Sac.

Panel 5:
Me and a creeped-out Bill Amend of Foxtrot.

Panel 6:
Glen Keane of "The Little Mermaid," "Beauty & the Beast," "Tangled," and more. Then, Kate Beaton of Hark! A Vagrant, Kris Straub of Starslip, Scott Kurtz of PvP, Scott C, and me.

A huge thank you to the NCS board and membership for the kind invite out to talk, to Universal Press Syndicate for the hospitality -- and for the warm welcome to all us youngin's over the course of the weekend. It was nothing but lovely.

LOVED this. It's always awesome to read about your various adventures, but it was especially cool to see it this way.

.. You've got three of my five favourite webcomic authors in that first panel. Is there a video of this wonderful occasion?

How do you manage to make Kurtz not look like an ogre?

Fun strip and it didn't even involve Arthur!

Glad to see Web and Print making nice. Scott Kurtz attitude and willingness to mix it up over the years soured me on him and his work. Pretty hard to look at his work without that baggage. Nice to see so many others have taken the high road and you among them.

Can I say I love this a lot Dave? In fact, I considered buying it for a second or two... but someone else beat me to it already. It's OK, I already have another strip of yours. :)

Probably what I love the most of it is not the strip itself but what it represents. It's about two formerly opposite worlds -web and print cartoonists- (finally) coming of age, shaking hands and recognizing we're all in the same boat. It was about time, and that's great.

At least that's how I interpreted it.

More often than not meeting our heroes can be really awkward, but those moments never stand a chance when you hear a casual phrase from such a mighty figure, thrown away like it's nothing, and for you, that meant a lifetime achievement!
Congrats all you guys!

NCS Reuben sounds like a scifi starship, doesn't it?

It's so cool to hear how funny Sandra Boynton was. Her book What's Wrong, Little Pookie was the first book my son genuinely laughed at. Of course, the fact that his dad was laughing hysterically might have sold that a little. Still, I've always loved her work and her wacky sense of humor.

Love the caricatures and now I'm even more gutted that I couldn't make it to this year's Reubens. Hope to meet you at another one.

In Response to Merat (#59267):

I was more thinking along the lines of NC(I)S and imagined an awesome shot of all attendees as Federal Agents.
