For those of you who read and enjoy my scifi strip DRIVE, I have a request of you: Today I’m officially launching a Patreon page for DRIVE, and I’d like your support. It’s HUGE news for that strip…and here’s why:

DRIVE started as a personal passion-project that I’d do on free nights or weekends. I’d draw it in my free time, and that would be that.

But as the story grew, thousands of folks got super passionate for the strip! And they didn’t want to wait until I had “free time” — they wanted regular updates now!

So I’m gonna use Patreon to change that equation. Patreon will let me dedicate more of my work-week to DRIVE, which means regular updates.

HERE’S HOW PATREON WORKS: For every strip update, you’re pledging to give a tiny amount: Pennies, really. But taken as a group, that support lets me block out the time the strip deserves, and results in more DRIVE.

We haven’t seen this breed in the strip for many years: It’s the fabled Himalayan Squishie. World-renowned for being the wrinkliest of the wrinkle dogs.

The best part about the Himalayan Squishie, in addition to how fun he is to draw, is how much fan art he generated, when he first appeared in the strip. Here’s just one example of a fan project: A life-size Himalayan Squishie!

In my house, Mo Willems’ books hold a special, special place. They are very loved, and read with the goofiest of voices…as all good children’s books should be. So today’s strip is written with all the love and admiration in the world for Mo. This is just a thought that runs through my mind, every time I ask which Pigeon book we should read tonight. 🙂

In the process of making Stripped, we wanted to create a faux 1950’s instructional video to explain how the business of comics worked in newspapers. That, of course, required some period-appropriate illustrations. So I tried to mimic the famous (and sometimes famously bad) UPA style.

Anyway…I had so much fun drawing that way, that I thought we’d take a little diversionary stroll this week in Sheldon. It’s a super freeing style to draw in: It’s actually taught me a few things, just in trying it out.
